Meet The Staff

The Commanding Officer
Flt Lt C Simmons


Flight Lieutenant Christopher Simmons AIBMS RAFVR(T), is Officer Commanding of 79 (Whitchurch) Squadron since his appointment in December 2002. He is the 5th Commanding Officer since the formation of the Squadron in 1985. Prior to this he had been the Squadron Adjutant for many years. He was commissioned as an RAFVR(T) Officer in May 1995 after being a Civilian Instructor on the Squadron for 6 years. For part of this time he was an Observer in the Royal Observer Corps, which he had joined in 1963 when he lived in Oxfordshire and in which he remained until stand down in 1991. The Royal Observer Corps was part of the Nuclear Warning and Monitoring Organisation and tasked with the role of Nuclear Fallout and Radiation Detection, in the event of a Nuclear War between Nato and Soviet Block forces. Flt Lt Simmons has been awarded the Royal Observer Corps Medal and Bar, and also The Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. He is a qualified Medical Scientist and currently works for a Scottish Scientific Company as a Marketing Executive.

In August 2004 he was presented with "The Commandant's Commendation" for his work with the Squadron.

He recieved his medal on 2nd June 2007 at Wing Training Weekend.
 

 

AWO H Docker
Squadron Warrant Officer



Adult Warrant Officer Helen Docker started as a Cadet at 2379 (Telford South) Squadron in 1997. Although she was at a late age in joining, she enjoyed all that cadets had to offer. Helen left the Squadron in 1999 and took a year's break before joining 79 (Whitchurch) Squadron as a CI. Helen then became an AWO in February 2002. She is the Squadron sporting officer among other things with qualifications in Netball Umpiring, Hockey Coach and a Sports Leader.

In September Helen was awarded "The Commandant's Commendation for Meritorious Service".
